Economic Development Project Manager

The person in this role will collaborate with different city departments and consultants to help facilitate top-notch development projects such as the Johnston Town Center, The Johnston Gateway, and the upcoming NW Annexation Area. The chosen candidate will work closely with site selectors and regional development organizations to attract new commercial development and respond to national site selection inquiries. Moreover, the project manager will expand the city's business retention and expansion program by working closely with existing businesses and business leaders to administer an effective tax increment financing policy. The ideal candidate will possess a deep interest in community engagement and finding innovative ways to carry out community betterment initiatives in a dynamic environment.

Economic Development Project Manager

Parks Maintenance Worker

The City of Johnston is currently looking for Park Maintenance Workers to take charge of various tasks related to the maintenance of city parks, trails, cemeteries, and park facilities. This includes taking care of landscape beds, trees, and other related duties. It is important to note that the specific tasks required can vary depending on the individual's skills, abilities, and experience. Therefore, these duties should not be considered exclusive or all-inclusive. In some cases, additional tasks may be assigned as well.

  • Clean and maintain park equipment, buildings, grounds and city facilities 
  • Mow, weed trim, rake, mulch, seed and water park grounds.  
  • Maintain landscaped areas; pull weeds, plant landscapes, water landscape beds and trees, prune trees and shrubs and other duties as assigned 
  • Pick-up and haul trash from park grounds to keep the parks clean and safe 
  • Perform general maintenance/repairs/cleaning of shelters, restrooms, picnic tables, benches, and other city facilities 
  • Assist with general maintenance of city playground equipment i.e. clean, rake mulch and trash clean-up 
  • Operate light and medium duty trucks with trailers, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers, chainsaws, chipper and other hand tools as used in assigned work
  • Maintenance and cleaning of above mentioned equipment

Public Works Construction Inspector

Under the general direction of the Public Works Director, serves as the City's representative on project sites for the inspection of storm and sanitary sewers, paving and sidewalks; and project meetings.  Performs plan and specification interpretation.  Serves as first contact for contractors and citizens on assigned projects. Provides technical support for other civil engineering tasks citywide.
