The Johnston Public Library Foundation conducted a Capital Campaign which provided the furniture and furnishings for our new library building, which was occupied in October 2001. The Foundation continues to fund special needs for the Library. Please call 515-278-5233 for further information on how to support the library through your monetary gifts.

The Foundation releases an annual report each year for the activities of the prior year. Follow the links to read the 2009 Annual Report and Donation Insert, which were distributed in March 2010.

The Johnston Public Library Friends group was established in 1996. The purpose of the Friends, as stated in the by–laws, is to:

  • Help the library continue to offer a wide variety of materials.
  • Provide input on vital issues.
  • Spread the word about the library and its role as a center for literary, intellectual, and cultural activity.
  • Support the library financially with membership dues.
  • Maintain an association of persons interested in libraries.

Membership is open to any person or organization interested in the Johnston Public Library who applies for membership and pays the necessary dues. Details are included in the Membership Brochure.

Some of the activities the Friends have sponsored in the past are: Stories by Stars, Rhyming Tales, Gardening Talks, a Garden Walk, and a Lollipop Concert presented by the Des Moines Symphony.

The Friends group maintains an ongoing book sale in the library.
