MINUTES

 November 8, 2008

The Johnston Public Library Board of Trustees met for a special meeting at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2008 in the Archive Room.  Present were Dennis Schuessler, Ellen Jessen, Shirley Weuve, and Director Willona Goers.

Approve Agenda

Shirley Weuve moved approval of the agenda.  The motion was seconded by Dennis Schuessler and unanimously approved.

FY09/10 Proposed Budget

At the November 3, 2008 City Council meeting the Council clarified the expectation concerning budget preparations, allowing for the growth in personnel costs in FY09/10.   This allowed the Library to create several new scenarios for the library trustees to review.

The Library was asked to present an initial budget request that represents 90% of our current budget, with an explanation of the way that the remaining $104,174 is currently being spent.  The directive was to show the impact of these funds.

A motion was made by Shirley Weuve that based upon the directive from the City Council the Library would present Scenario 2 (with reductions throughout various line items, staffing, and library materials) at the initial budget discussion, with the option to revise the scenario if the budget allows more funds in January than currently anticipated.  Dennis Schuessler seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

The initial budget presentation will be made on November 17, 2008 at 6:00 pm.

Adjournment

Shirley Weuve moved adjournment of the meeting.  The motion was seconded by Dennis Schuessler, unanimously approved and the meeting adjourned at 10:40 am.
